Overview
Showroom and Second Floor (Givenchy) Closeup
I felt as though my last design was lacking in a sense of cohesiveness so upon receiving some guidance during tutorial, I decided to change my design to allow a natural progression through the building. In the structure, there are a series of levels held up by supporting columns. Most of the building is made from stainless steel mesh, with the columns, balustrades and railings comprised of loosely woven mesh, and the floors and stairs being made of more tightly woven mesh. The inside of these mesh cages can be lined with plastic, then fabric, then soil and then plants, where the lines of steel will act as trellises for the plants. The building is meant to blur the boundary between inside and outside.
Level 1 and Level 2 (Showroom - Cafe and Catwalk)
I wanted to blur the line between inside and outside so the ground is left as grass. On top of this there are elevated platforms. This first level is the showroom for Pasi Petanen.
The platform above is a catwalk for Givenchy models, and is reached by the ladder on the far left.
Level 3 is accessed via a stair from the catwalk. A low descent upwards leads to an area to change clothes and fix hair and makeup. Up further is a storage area and the highest space is for the manufacturing of the clothes.
Showroom 2 (Pasi Petanen Pavilion)
There is an option for guests to dine in an outdoor pavilion if they don't wish to watch the show. There are only limited seats. Alternatively, it can be used as a break area for the employees. It is accessed by a bridge from the main showroom.
Showroom to above ground (Givenchy) stair
The stair transitions into the catwalk.
Below ground (Pasi Petanen) to showroom
I like the idea of stairs having a function other than transporting a person from level to level. This stair acts as a wall for the kitchen as well as an outdoor seating area.
